6mm Modern

Postby Jamrowski » Mon Apr 13, 2015 7:36 pm

With all the early interest, I though it may be worth creating a dedicated thread to support the subject.

Not sure who exactly jumped on-board the 'modern micro' train besides Stu and myself (far too easily lured by Seb!)

- Seb seemed to have a mix of everything
- Stu went with Soviets / WARPAC
- I ended up French (!) and more recently a random mix of WARPAC bits which will no doubt
constitute the '*Free Royal Dutch and Ukranian Naval Commando Territorial Fusilier
Reserves'
(or something similar!)

Stu has painted his 'stuff' up already with my F.R.D.U.N.C.T.F.R not too far behind (Dirty French waiting in 'the wings') anyone else in on the action?

I've always been interested in 6mm modern. Do you have a rules set in mind or a time period?

My baby is a bit older now and I can see some free time on the horizon :)

I was thinking Cold War Commander and the flames cold war mod (link found somewhere on an earlier thread).

My painting productivity has stalled out. While my bros are technically good to go, I'd be ashamed to put them on the field...

Yeah, I guess I'll field BAOR and/or Soviets.
Need to get to salute first though.
Forces in work:
15mm BAOR Squadron / Company size - Team Yankee / Sabre Squadron

Current playable (Painted):
6mm West Germans / Bundeswehr: Battalion sized-ish - Team Yankee / Sabre Squadron

Before i jump in with the British Berlin Brigade what sort of points / OOB / Lists are we looking at or is it going to be a case of 'grab what you want' to start with?

I'd say grab what you want, organise a game and try to balance it then. Personally I have enough tanks and artillery to field the BAOR tank list at least twice over. Again not painted to a standard I like but good enough for kickabouts.

I was going to aim for about 2000pts if that help establish a baseline

Just remember you will be scored on the accuracy / detail of the camo; our community expectations of your ability to faithfully recreate the paint scheme are very high ;)

Well, my Ukranians / 'any_non_Soviet_Eastern_bloc_nation_you_like' are now painted (found the models too small for my 'mits' so ended up basing as well).....

Any NATO armies ready from anyone yet? (Otherwise there is a real danger of very topical / current affairs gaming taking place; Stu and his Soviets vs my Ukrainians <we've probably got enough Epic urban scenery to recreate Debaltseve!!>)

There not Soviets, they're just Pro-Russian Ukrainian freedom fighters! You aren't mistaking the 'Humanitarian Convoy' for T-80s and Artillery again are you?
Flames Of War: Soviets
Team Yankee (6mm and 15mm): Soviets
Bolt Action: Soviets
DUST: SSU aka Soviets (anyone spotted the theme yet?)
Star Wars Armada: Imperials (Space Soviets, a long, long time ago)
Epic Armageddon: Imperials (Space Soviets, in the grim, far future)
Frostgrave: Dwarves (Short Soviets)

Local media are reporting that Russian mechanised forces have crossed the Ukrainian border. The Russian representative to the UN has stated that his country will no longer tollerate the 'illegal occupation of Ukraine by fascist usurper government." NATO HQ has declared a state of emergency. You are to redeploy to forward staging points and await further orders,

So this is 2000pts. 2000pts that I can fit in a blister pack. I love this scale...

Anyway, I've set aside an identical force that I can paint up as I play with this one.

Has anyone had any stuff from Heroics & Ros? What is the general opinion on the quality?

Im looking at them as they sell minis individually (and the number of 2x or 3x vehicle choices makes buying in blisters of 4 seem a bit overkill)

Are people still looking at using the Red tide? With me selling my Dust stuff I might divert some of the funds to some 6mm German armour

Yep - 2000pts is the aim!

(disclaimer: I just bought a handful of random French armour blisters which look like they will make 2000pts <it'll be there or there abouts>)

From memory, all my French stuff was in '5' s (5x Battle Tanks per blister)

Still not sure how Sebs ends up with so little stuff - granted my French army is only slightly bigger ;)

That's the big advantage with this system - it's very little fiscal outlay up front to get yourself in the game (Plus you can transport your army in a tobacco tin!)

So, it feels like we may need to schedule a 'Kick off' evening sometime soon?

Sounds like we have:

- Seb: Brits
- Stu: Soviets
- Matt: Brits?
- Liam: Germans (possibly)
- Jono: French

Have I missed anyone (apologies if I have - make yourself known!)?

.....please tell me (someone) that I can 'glue' the turrets on my French armour (damn things are too small and fiddly for my chunky mitts!).

Any views to to whether this would be acceptable or not (ok, it may lead to some challenging 'facing' questions, but I'll be happy to declare / clarify after movement to avoid any in game 'excitement').

Any views? (Stu - what did you do with your Soviets?)

Quick update - just realised I can configure my 'proxy' Ukranians to the East German Armoured List (Just in case Stu ends up being the only 'non NATO' player)!

I glued the turrets on mine. The gun barrels are far too slim to risk them rattling about. We may have to 'house rule' something about facing to cover this.

So, the French (Vive de Gaulle!) are complete (just painted turrets to glue!)

Looks like I can configure them 2 ways for 2000pts:

- Hq: 2x AMX30B
- CP: 4x AMX30B
- CP: 4x AMX30B
- CP: 4x AMX30B
- SP: 3x GCT SP

Or

- HQ: 2x AMX30B
- CP: 4x AMX30B
- CP: 4x AMX30B
- SP: 3x GCT SP
- SP: 2x VAB Sct (or 1x AMX10P and 1x VAB as optional extra HQ)
- SP: 2x ERC 90
- SP: 2x AMX10RC*

*Only those crazy French would mount a Tank Turret on an Armoured Car Chassis!!
