Kursk event - July (Old Duke)

Postby Jamrowski » Fri May 26, 2017 7:29 pm

It's that time of year when once more we need to dust off our Tank companies for some serious Armoured fun!

Stu has kindly confirmed the Duke is once again able to host a day of Armoured madness; who could possibly forget the previous highlights:
- Alex somehow fighting 2 opponent simultaneously (?)
- Tiger-fest on the middle table; still not sure how Jonathan managed to fend off Steve's IS2's
- Sam and his T34 'Tsunami' thundering toward my SS lines
- Alex and his 'Rudel-esque' Stuka - that one way to ruin a Soviet commanders day
- The now legendary 119 tank column the Soviet players created.....

So, the detail:
- late war
- 1515 points
- Armoured companies only (no girly Infantry or Mech companies on my watch!)
- German players: lists from Grey Wolf only
- Soviet players: lists from Red Bear only
- Hungarians / Finns: lists from Grey Wolf
- Romanians: Red Bear
- any other nation....Canadians, Poles, USA etc - will we turn you away? Hell no - if it's a legal late war Tank Company from a 1944 source book (no 'Bridge at Remagen' / Bulge books please), you are in the game!
- V4 rules: Yes, V4 - you know you want to try it!
- Date: either 15th or 16th July - depending on numbers / interest
- format: we'll join up a few tables, have a round of 1 on 1 to get everyone 'warmed up' (meeting engagement scenario, then we'll have a 'mega game' of Soviet's vs Germans <in true Kursk fashion, for the Mega game the Axis forces will be the attacker!>)

Register you interest below please with:
Name / preferred date (15/07 or 16/07) / Axis or Soviet
Team Yankee: US Armoured Division / DDR Panzerkompanie
Flames of War: Soviet Inomarochnikiy Tankovy Batalon

I'm in. Either day, and as many points of Axis as you want/need.

I hate to bring a thematically wrong list, but I'm there with my Brits unless someone has a surfeit of tanks and can lend me a list.

Two things: firstly Stukas got weak under v4. It's all about the Hs129 now.

And secondly, how set is the date? The 15th is probably doable for my brother, but if we could go a week later that would definitely be better.

Date is flexible; it's all about the numbers - if the 22nd is more convenient and we'll get more players, the 22nd (or 23rd) it is!

Any advance on numbers or date for this please, Jono? If it's the 22nd/23rd, I can probably offer three players - at the moment all likely to play Axis, but I could bring British Shermans if we're in need of rebalancing numbers. If it's 15th/16th it might only be me.

A surfeit of tanks, you say... how do you feel about playing Germans?

I'm in for this with must Canucks.

It's also a full moon on the 22nd ... so no guarantee some of my Tankies wont be hootin' an howlin'!
I know the voices aren't real ... but they have such FASCINATING ideas!

I'm really sorry to be the one requesting yet another different date, but now can't do the 22nd either. Is the 8th terrible for anyone?

Otherwise, stick with whatever works for the majority, and please ignore my repeated flapping.

I don't want to steal the thunder from whatever proper Kursk event ends up running, but I'm going to be at the Duke on Saturday and/or Sunday playing a few games - I'll have both a Tank list, and my utterly bonkers Armoured Train list - along with my brother with Finnish tanks, and his friend Chewie with Japanese (!) tanks. If anyone wants to drop in and join us, they'd be very welcome.

If you want a game, it'd be best if you can message me beforehand so that we can make sure to be around on the right day and at the right time.

I'll definitely try to pop in on you but I'd best just be a spectator. There's a chance I could play on Saturday but that's not 100% and Sunday is almost certainly no good.

We're probably going to aim to play a bit on both Sat and Sun.

If you can make it on Saturday, Jon is also talking about bringing a Berlin list which I think needs to have a wave of T-34s thrown at it! I'll have a range of toys; train, possibly Panzers, and I might also bring some Brits to offer an OPFOR - all at 1515pts. I do need to test a tournament list at some point, but this might not be the occasion.

If anyone wants to come along and watch/ask stupid questions/heckle they're very welcome, and if anyone wants to borrow some forces so that they can pick up and play, they'll be very welcome to do so.

I've thrown together a T-34/85 heavy list. If I'm able to be about it won't take long for me to grab it. What time were you thinking of starting?

I don't 100% know, I'm afraid, but not before late morning at the earliest for the Saturday, and afternoon is more likely. Normal opening time for the Duke is 1200, right?

Okay. Don't worry about opening early; we'll be there some time a little after noon, then (both days). For anyone who wants to watch, join in, or just jeer: we'll probably be around until about 6pm or so.
